The Region 2 DEPP Risk Coordinator is Mark Maddaloni, DrPH. He serves as the regional expert on risk assessment and provides technical assistance and advice to divisional program offices on EPAs risk policies. In this position, he facilitates the utilization of comparative risk in joint EPA/state multi-media strategic plans as well as provides technical support in the development and review of complex site-specific risk assessments. Marks expertise is in human health risk assessment and he is a nationally recognized expert on lead. His professional experience has also given him a thorough knowledge of mercury and asbestos risks as well as risk assessments of chemical mixtures. Mark is certified by the American Board of Toxicology and is a member of the Society of Toxicology. Gina Ferreira, an Environmental Scientist, provides ecological risk assessment technical assistance to DEPP in conjunction with the Risk Coordinator. She is a working member of the Ecological Risk Assessment Forum (ERAF), a national forum responsible for achieving consistency in the policies and practices of ecological risk assessment. Gina is currently serving on several ERAF workgroups completing projects such as a national ecological risk assessment statement of work, ecotoxicological profiles for chemicals, and a redesigned OSWER risk assessment Web site. She also serves as the regional ecological risk assessment representative on several national conference calls including the Risk Assessment Teleconference for Superfund (RATS), Combustion Assistance Teleconference for Support (CATS), RCRA Corrective Action, and the Ecosystem Stewardship Enterprise.
