Laparoscopy
- A surgical procedure in which a telescoping rod (laparascope) is inserted through a small incision in the abdominal area. Used in biopsies or minor surgeries.

Latency period
- The time between exposure to a carcinogen and the development of cancer.

Lawsuit
- A legal action in which one entity or person seeks damages from another.

Lobectomy
- A surgical procedure in which one lobe of a lung is removed from the body.

Lung cancer
- Carcinoma (uncontrolled growth of cancer cells) of the lung. There are several variations of lung cancer: metastic, which spreads to the lung from another bodily organ, and primary, which originates within the patient's lungs; lung cancer is classified based on the type of cell that causes the cancer (squamous cell, small cell, large cell, alveolar cell, or adenocarcinoma).

- The body's breathing organs. They bring oxygen to the blood and remove carbon dioxide from the air. There are two lungs, left and right.

Lymph
- A fluid that bathes body cells and is composed of lymphocytes.

Lymph node
- A mass of lymphatic tissue surrounded by connective tissue, lymph nodes filter lymphatic fluid (lymph) and store white blood cells (lymphocytes). Also known as lymph glands, lymph nodes are often involved in mesothelioma.
