Mesothelioma and Painters in Construction and Maintenance

Painters in Construction and Maintenance and Asbestos

Asbestos was often used in the construction industry in a number of different products and although it was not usually used in paint, painters often were required to paint over asbestos-containing materials. Painters were also often in environments where there was a lot of asbestos dust, and the inhalation of this dust could lead to Mesothelioma. Today, although asbestos is no longer used in the construction industry, construction workmen and painters may still be exposed to old asbestos-containing materials during the course of their work.

Dangers of Inhaling Asbestos: Mesothelioma

Painters working on buildings are required to prepare the surface that is to be painted by scraping, sanding, filling, or caulking it. They also have to paint the surface and perhaps even mix the paint that they require. When painters prepare asbestos-containing surfaces for painting by scraping or sanding, a large amount of asbestos dust is released into the atmosphere, which could be inhaled by the painter, thus leading to Mesothelioma.

Although asbestos-containing materials are no longer used in construction, many older buildings still have asbestos in their structure. If painters are working within this area or with some old asbestos-containing products, then they are required to take special precautions in order to protect themselves from Mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma Lawsuits and Construction Painters

Many painters in the construction industry have suffered Mesothelioma as a result of their exposure to asbestos. If the painter feels that this has been due to negligence on the part of the company for which they worked, then they may decide to pursue legal action and file a lawsuit against the offending company. Many lawsuits relating to asbestos exposure and Mesothelioma have been filed within the last few years. These are being or have been decided, to give the victim some sort of compensation for their sufferings.

If a painter feels that the company for which they worked was at fault for not taking the required precautions, and them subsequently getting Mesothelioma, then they can begin a lawsuit against the company to ask for compensation.
