Before about 1980 asbestos was used in many different tools and materials, one of these being the welding rods used by welders and flame cutters. As a result welders would often inhale asbestos dust which could lead to Mesothelioma. In many cases, employers were aware of the risks of asbestos but failed to alert their workers to these dangers and so today many Mesothelioma lawsuits are being decided between negligent employers and their previous employees.

How Were Welders and Flame Cutters Exposed to Asbestos?

Before 1980 most of the welding rods used by welders and flame cutters were coated with a material that contained 5-15% asbestos. When welders used these rods they would be exposed to asbestos dust that was emitted from these rods.

When these asbestos fibers were inhaled, they would pass through to the lungs of the welders where they could start attacking the lining of the lungs. This disease of the lungs is known as Mesothelioma and is a deadly cancer which also attacks other parts of the body such as the heart and stomach.

The dangers of asbestos have been known for centuries and employers were often aware of these dangers long before they alerted their workers to it or took the necessary precautions. As a result, welders who contracted Mesothelioma through this negligence are now suing these negligent employers for their sufferings and seeking compensation.
