Occupational Disease Resources
An occupational disease is an illness that is caused when a workplace environment is unsafe. Unlike in workplace accidents, some time usually passes before the symptoms of an occupational disease appear. In some cases of occupational disease, symptoms will not show up for up to 20 years after exposure. There are many workplace substances that can cause occupational disease. The most common occupational diseases are caused by silica, beryllim, bauxite, asbestos and iron. Fumes, smoke, and toxic liquids also can cause occupational diseases. Employers have a responsibility to their employees to maintain a safe working environment. The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency are responsible for maintaining safe work environments. Mesothelioma is a very serious, life-threatening occupational disease caused by exposure to asbestos. Those who are suffering from mesothelioma as a result of workplace exposure to asbestos have a right to compensation for their suffering. If you, or a loved one, is suffering from mesothelioma, contact a mesothelioma lawyer today.
